Race Date: Sunday 22 June 2025
Who would be team manager? If managing relay teams is hard enough, organising a track and field team is twice as difficult with 38 events to cover for both men and women ranging from jumps and throws to sprints and endurance. All this with usually a paucity of resources. Last Sunday saw Seth Kirby (City of Sheffield and Dearne AC) and Yasmine Chaffer (Hallamshire) turning out for their second claim clubs. Steel City isn’t declared for track and field so no conflict of interest.
Seth ran 16:40.94 for 5000m at Lincoln finishing 4th in the A string earning five points for his club.
Yasmine was given a stiffer test with first of all the 400m to be followed shortly after by the 1500m and rounded of with a leg of the 4x400m. Yasmine doesn’t see herself as a sprinter and the advice was, should she find herself off the back, to simply jog round for a point or two. As as it turned out however, running the A race, she finished 4th in 74.5 earning her club a useful five points. The 1500m was only 20 minutes later but even so, although only running 5:37.6, she finished 3rd A string gathering six more points. Running the B string for Hallamshire was F65 and former GB Hurdler Veronica Boden.
The finale was a leg of the 4x400m with the team finishing third of three in 5:12.1.

Yasmine in the 4x400m. Even if running the last leg it’s still good practice to carry the baton in the right hand.
