When Simone YA popped up on Strava at Shipley Country Park on Saturday the immediate thought was that she was there for the Notts XC Champs. Alas not but to make up she was there in her capacity as team manager, cheer leader and official photographer for Caroline Brock. An important role as Caroline explained that with the icy weather Ripley wasn’t the expected mud bath so as she warmed up with Simone for company they discussed the important issues of the day including whether it should be spikes or studs?

Taking advice, Caroline went for trail which she confessed did not feel right but once racing all was quickly forgotten enjoying competing on a new course. (Editor: Nothing feels right when running on a frozen rutted surface). Caroline finished seventh Derbyshire woman and, with the top nine up for selection, once more qualified for the Derbyshire team at the Inter-Counties in March. An added bonus was a shiny silver medal finishing second F35.
