Just finished the Wolds Rangers Way Ultra Trail Marathon 50k and WOW! What an incredible experience.
Cara and myself set off at 5:30am to start this incredible journey, for my first 50k ultra marathon.
Getting there around one hour before the start time, to have our kit checked and the tracking system fitted to our bags.
All with a fantastic huge barn coffee shop, with drinks, cakes and anything from a bacon sandwich, to a full English.
The race kicked-off at 8 am, and the 8°C temperature was absolutely perfect for a long run.
The rolling countryside was simply stunning – a true feast for the eyes. The course had a great mix of challenging inclines and lovely, flowing descents that made the kilometers fly by!
Every step was worth it, 4 brilliant aid stations, giving us the fuel we needed, (orange or apple & blackcurrant squash, water or full fat coke, Mountain Fuel gels, a selection of energy bars, bananas, satsumas, skittles etc. Before the race started you had the option to leave a small bag with your bib number on, with whatever you wanted, and these were driven to aid station number 3. I packed two bagels with peanut butter, two bananas and two sweet crêpes with toffee sauce.
At the finish we were greeted with a round of applause from runners that had finished, and were given our t-shirts and beautiful wooden medals, a choice of tea, coffee or squash, water etc. and a generous square of either home-baked brownie or granola.
I highly recommend this race to any ultra-runner looking for a beautiful and well-organised event. The atmosphere was amazing, and the scenery unforgettable. Time to recover and start planning the next adventure!
The race was won by Runar Saether (of no identified club) in 03:47:42 and Chrissie Dover (of no identified club) in 04:35:03 .
