Three female Striders – Carol Beattie, Lucy Broom and Kate Scott – were selected to represent Northern Masters Athletic Club at the Inter Area challenge in London on 14th March. Between them they covered ten events and made a massive contribution towards the overall team performance. The team finished 6th overall (men and women combined) in a competition won by Southern County Vets, who made the most of their home advantage.

Caroline Marler from Northern Masters picked out all three Striders for particular mention in her report, saying:
“Carol Beattie competed heroically in the 200m, 800m and 1500m gaining many points.”
“Lucy Broom got two 4th places, in the 1500m and 800m, solid performances.”
“Kate Scott competed in a lot of events, (hurdles, 400m, 800m, Long Jump and relay) and gained 14 points in her individual events. So versatile and willing.”
Lucy reports enjoying the event, cheering on Kate and Carol, and NMAC friends. Her races were a bit isolated (no one near enough ahead or behind to compete with) and her times a bit down on where she would hope to be. However two controlled, solid races, including a new F50 club record in the 1500m, gave some some positives to build on.
Carol has been a regular competitor in the outdoor inter area competition and enjoyed trying out the indoor track to score many F70 points in the 800m 1500m and 200m. She was brilliant !!

Kate had a frantic afternoon with four individual events, setting new club F60 records in the 60m hurdles and long jump. She also ran the second leg of the F50 4x200m relay, setting a new F50 relay record for Northern Masters.

4×200 W50 relay team. Wendy Valentine, Kate Scott, Afroditi Kalambouca & Joy Hickman set a NMAC record of 2: 37.17
