Race Date: Friday 9th January 2026
Moonriver is a night time fell race in Dovedale valley starting from The Old Dog in Thorpe, offering a scenic but testing 9.5 km route with 345 m of climb run under headtorch light. Terrain includes open fields, a rocky riverside trail, a woodland climb and undulating footpaths.
The event was marked as full; the online entry list showed 230 participants and the stated maximum capacity is 250 runners. However, only 136 runners braved Storm Goretti to make the start line.
The male race was won by Chris Jones of Pennine FR in 43.46. The female race was won by Harriet Wingfield of DPFR in 48.36.
Here’s a brief write up from the race organisers: On the back of Storm Goretti, 136 runners braved the wintery conditions for the Moonriver Night Race 2026. Spirits were high as they set off wooping and cheering and quickly disappeared into the dark, the way lit by fluorescent tape and the friendly torches of marshals. The ground was wet with snow and mud, and there were more than a few slips and falls — some runners even opted to sit and slide down the last tricky descent. In the end, all made it back (relatively) unscathed to a welcoming bowl of chilli at @theolddogthorpe.
