Race Date: Sunday 2nd May 2026
Our Special Correspondent reports on the NWIP.
Held in Queen’s Park, Chesterfield at 9am on the first Saturday of each month this event offers an accurately timed and measured 5k away from the bedlam that can ensue on some of the busier parkrun events which, of course, aren’t races. No frills, no prizes, just a good hard run.
Five Steel City ran in May, each with their own objectives. Finishing in order Jon Smith was using the event as a tune up on the way to a major target at the Mid-Cheshire 5k in three weeks time as both Steven Cahill and John Kilcoyne were both rebuilding fitness with John remarking how this was about a minute slower than last year. Caroline Brock was second woman, back in action after breaking the Steel City F40 club record at the Manchester Mara couple of weeks ago whilst for third woman Beth Varney, after breaking 20 minutes for the first time back in February, the barrier seems to hold no fear running 19:59 here last month and 19:44 in the May race.
