Out On The Wily Windy Moors: Stanbury Splash 2026

Race Date: Sunday 18th January 2026

Stanbury Splash is a BM category fell race held on the Stanbury Moors near Haworth, West Yorkshire. (Officially 12km but about 11km with 340m of climb on Strava.) Varied terrain with several ascents and descents made for a fun course, and the three river crossings were to be expected given the name of the race.

Conditions were fairly poor, heavy rain for the most part and very bad visibility, though I did find myself thinking thank God it’s not windy, so it definitely could have been worse. I was certainly glad that there was no ice after falling many times at the previous weeks’ Round Sheffield Run. Luckily the course had a few marshals dotted about and was partially marked, which made it hard to go off course despite the conditions.

Overall a really fun race with friendly people that was definitely worth the drive out there. Highly recommend to anyone who likes winter fell races!
