Italy’s largest running event, the Rome Marathon attracts between 30,000 to 40,000 runners each year and combines elite competition and mass participation. The scenic route passes over 500 historic sites in the country’s capital.

There were two Striders among around 36,000 runners who lined up for the Rome Marathon. The men’s race was won by Asbel Rutto of Kenya in a time of 02:06:32. Pascaline Kibiwot, also of Kenya won the women’s race in a time of 02:22:44.
