York is the place to be as Gareth Winter returned to York for the third time in eight months running in the elite Super Sprint race to lower his pb and taking twelve seconds off Seth Kirby’s previous club record. Popular with Steel City recently the five lap course on a cycle track at the University of York Sports Village has proved to be a happy hunting ground with a succession of personal bests set here. Held on a Friday evening each month between February and November the next race is on 8th May.

The Supersprint race was won by George Ravenhall (Airecentre) with 14:49, the pace being so hot that Gareth didn’t make the top ten out of 52 runners. First woman was Lizzy Edge (Rushcliffe) 16:43. Of note is the 15:19 run by U16 Thomas Hastings (Wakefield) who was third in his age category at the English Schools XC in March and tenth in the National in February. The first of the 121 competitors in the open race was Joseph Minchella (Holmfirth) 16:02 with Jane Grant (St Theresas) 17:11 first woman.
The 5x1km laps of the cycle track is also the home of Heslington parkrun
