Wickersley 10k 2026

Race Date: Sunday 8th March 2026

Martin Downham reports on the second ever Wickersley 10k which set off at 10am from Wickersley School & Sports College, S66 1JL, just off the A631 Bawtry Road with quite a lot of parking.

This sold-out event (c. 1500 entries) heads over the M18 Motorway to Thurcroft on closed roads. There are a number of twists and turns around residential areas and a couple of two-way sections (handy to cheer other faster/slower runners) before the race returns to the combined Start/Finish area. Although a road race, the Start / Finish is on playing field grass but thankfully not too slippery despite recent rain. There’s just one, muddy, narrow section as the race leaves and later re-enters the Start/Finish playing field.

Large crowds greeted us at various key points around the route, though some “out of town” areas were fairly quiet. As is more common today, there were a few speed humps and the odd bollard to avoid as fully detailed in the pre-race safety briefing. There were also a plenty of food stalls at the Start/Finish, although it was a bit chilly on the day to hang around for too long.

A water stop (which I nearly missed) was available at 5k. Jelly babies were also on hand en-route with all finishers receiving a medal, water and a bag of sweets. Congratulations to all the Steel City that ran including Sarah Moss and Jacqui Herring who managed podium finishes.
