Round 2 of the Road League and Championship saw 29  Striders competing in the Wombwell 5 road race.  The threatened snow did not arrive and conditions, whilst certainly cold, were pretty good for running.  Rather cruelly, the organisers send you through the finish line twice just to make sure you truly appreciate their inflatable arch.

The event, organised by Kingstone Runners, has been taking place for almost 40 years – at £14 to enter it is remarkably good value.  Despite the sharp hill in the second mile it is a quick course, with the winner clocking just inside 25 minutes.  For anyone wanting a stats fix, Kingstone Runners report that there were 416 finishers; 252 male, 164 female; 297 club runners representing 52 different clubs and 119 unattached runners.

There were fine runs by Paul Hargreaves and Edward Shattock, both sneaking inside the 30 minute mark and gathering good points for the Road Leagues.   Six Striders made it into the age group podium places, with Dot Kesterton and myself claiming victory in the F70 and M65 categories.
