Due to some access issues on the Salt Cellar route in 2019 we are using an alternative route. We expect to be able to return to the original Salt Cellar route in 2020. The alternative route goes up onto some very similar areas than the original route and should take broadly the same time to complete.

The date, start time and the start and finish all remain the same. To enter, please use the link on the main Salt Cellar webpage.

The alternative route will all be run on National Trust land bridleways. It is slightly longer but involves less ascent and descent.
The route description and course map are below.
Please accept our apologies for the changes at this very late stage.

Route description
From the start, runners climb the steps below the dam wall and run along the track beside the reservoir. From there is a steep climb up to Bamford House. This is followed by an out and back section up towards the Back Tor trig point. Please take care as the paths get narrow at points, and there will be some ‘two-way traffic’ on this section. Once back at Bamford House, runners take a left and follow the path south to Wellhead. On the final section of road back to the dam please be aware of any traffic – though the route will be marshalled and we do not expect many vehicles. As usual, the race finishes with a final dash through the woods. It may be starting to get dark at this stage, especially for slower runners, so please take care here.
Course map 2019 – the route is marked in purple below. It starts and finishes below the Dewent Dam and is run in a clockwise direction.
