An old school race: no spectators, no chip timing, no distance markers, no medals or cakes at the end, no running with dogs or buggies, and by order of the starter Keith Binney no earphones or ‘Bones’  “tek um out afore we start” and the use of a starter gun to get the race underway. The briefing before the race included an apology for the lack of a portaloo and the hope that there would be one in situ for next year’s race. Spending a penny these days apparently needs insurance and obtaining this proved to be problematic. It was a ‘predominately’ flat route on a mix of terrain with some testing hills added to make it a challenging race.
