Club Committee

The club committee oversees the finances and governance of the club. They coordinate the events, training, communications and competitions.

Committee meetings and Annual General Meeting

Club committee meetings are held approximately once a month throughout the year. They usually take place on a Tuesday, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, at Norton Oakes Cricket Club. All club members are welcome. If you wish to attend please email the club secretary, Norma Parkes, (via the contact form) in advance if possible as space and time is limited.

At the AGM the committee present the annual report and club accounts and debate any motions. Details of the AGM are sent to members, along with nomination forms and minutes around a month before the meeting. The meeting is followed by prize giving and a buffet and drinks.

The AGM used to be held at the end of March. From 2016 onwards, the AGM was moved and held in January to allow motions passed to be in place for the start of the new Striders year (1 Feb).

Andy Buck – Club Chairman Andy has been running for most of the past 40 years. His first Sheffield Half Marathon was in 1984, and his first fell race was the Mickleden Straddle a few years later (in road shoes!) He’s very rarely seen on tarmac, apart from the occasional Parkrun, but can often be found at cross country and fell races. Andy has been the club chair since 2014.

  Nicky Nield – Vice Chair I have been on the Committee since 2018. My role is that of Vice Chair, standing in for Andy Buck on the rare occasions when he is not available. My background is in the law of child protection. I joined Striders in late 2013 following completion of the excellent 5-10K course. Predominantly I am a (slow) road runner with the odd trail race thrown in but I really enjoy volunteering for any of the Striders’ events. I hold the Leader in Running Fitness qualification and you will usually see me down at Heeley on a Monday evening when I will either be leading or supporting the slower groups or just going for a run. In terms of my work for the Committee, if you look at the website for the various guidance and codes of conduct you can be pretty sure I will have had a hand in them. If you see me down at Heeley or elsewhere do have a chat about any issues you would like to discuss.

 Alan Barnett Alan Barnett – Non-prescribed role Joined Striders in 1983, started Percy Pud in 1993. I have PBs of 1:21 half marathon and 37 min 10k. Started working life In print as a graphic artist ended it running the graphic reproduction arm of a national print company. Spent final years as the Fitness Supervisor and Personal Trainer at Esporta. Married to Sandra and we still live in the same 200 yr old cottage we renovated in Rivelin Valley since 1966.
