We are Sheffield’s friendliest running club organising training sessions across the city. Steel City Striders formed in 1982 and caters for many running levels and types, including road, fell and cross country. To get you started, we have collated some useful information below that should help you get to know the club better.

Training and support

  • Training sessions – regular training days throughout the week at various locations around the city, including Heeley, Millhouses, Hillsborough and Graves. Some sessions may require you to book in advance using the RunTogether platform: steelcitystriders.co.uk/training-sessions/
  • Run leaders – training sessions will be led by experienced club members or England Athletics qualified run leaders. We’ve added photos of our run leaders to help you recognise them: steelcitystriders.co.uk/run-leaders/
  • Club coaches – we have a number of England Athletics trained coaches who lead sessions and are happy to answer any coaching questions: steelcitystriders.co.uk/club-coaches/
  • Club committee – behind the scenes there is a hard working bunch of people that make up the committee of the club. The elected committee and club captains coordinate events, training, communications and competitions: steelcitystriders.co.uk/club-committee/
  • Guidelines for group running – to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all runners we’ve produced some guidelines for both group runners and run leaders to follow: steelcitystriders.co.uk/guidelines-for-running-groups/
  • Running guides – members of the club have written various useful documents aimed at runners of all levels, from running cross country to strength exercises and how to build your own training plans with recommended sessions: steelcitystriders.co.uk/running-guide-summary/

Networking and sharing

Representation

  • Volunteering – every role within the club is undertaken by volunteers. Be that leading a Monday night run from Heeley to managing the website to organising the Percy Pud 10k. The club could not function without this band of amazing volunteers. There will be requests for volunteers throughout the year, so please come forward and get involved: steelcitystriders.co.uk/contact-us/
  • Annual General Meeting – the committee present the annual report and debate any motions at the AGM. Attending the AGM as a member gives you the right to present a motion and nominate other members to join the club committee. The meeting is followed by prize giving, a buffet and drinks: steelcitystriders.co.uk/club-committee/
  • Community support – through our club events we are in the very fortunate position of being able to support charities and other good causes in and around Sheffield. We do so by making donations and volunteering our time to help the work of local organisations and groups: steelcitystriders.co.uk/community-support-and-charity-donations/
