I came across the Tissington Trail half whist looking for some much needed new year motivation.
The Tissington Trail is the site of a former railway line from Ashbourne to Buxton. The trail route gently climbs through the glorious Peak District before turning around for a downhill finish.
The pre race emails were informative, ample paid parking and use of the facilities at Ashbourne leisure centre.
The start line was a short walk from race HQ at Ashbourne leisure centre. Both the 10km and half marathon started as a mass start. The race was inclusive to beginners and seasoned runners.
It was an out and back race with the first 6 miles being a gentle climb and the return a gentle downhill. I found the out section particularly difficult and questioned why I was doing this on a Sunday morning. Luckily, I picked up my pace and motivation after the turn round and made it to the finishing line.
As promised there were Jaffa Cakes and a medal at the finish line.
The men’s race was won by Jordan Horracks, unffilliated in 01:22:53. The first lady to cross the finish was Rebecca Hobbs of Tamworth AC in 01:31:04.
Two Striders took part on the day:
