Race Report by Dave Birch
A warm morning of sunshine and showers saw 308 runners line up for this long-standing 10K. Starting and finishing on Newark Rugby Club’s field, the course is on mainly rural roads, and is quite flat, with one drag of a hill between 6 & 7 K. The race was won in 35:02 by Adam Baker of Lincoln Wellington, with Nicki Nealon of Huncote Harriers taking the women’s prize in 38:39. Yours truly managed 44:34, a minute quicker than last year, but at 7min 10 secs per mile, that’s 20 secs/mile slower than my half marathon back in March ! My pace seems to have declined in inverse proportion to my intake of alcohol, cakes and biscuits since the London Marathon ! Only 3rd V60 as well – 1st was 42:29, but a reasonable entry of oldies, as 4th and 5th were only 11 & 12 secs respectively in my wake. Showering & changing facilities, plenty of parking, and good organisation make this an event worth considering.
