Mulgrave Castle 10k

Race date 03.06.18, report by Gillian Burgon
On Sunday 3rd June 3 striders took on the Mulgrave Castle 10k race in Sandsend, near Whitby.
It’s a small local, off road trail race, organised by Loftus & Whitby AC. At 10:45 we were taken on 10 minute walk to the start within the Mulgrave Estate.
The course starts with a lovely downhill section and continued to undulate around the estate on a land drover suitable track. There seemed to be a lot of up and downs, some quite steep but short! The route takes you through a tunnel and a small ford, which made it interesting. At 9km the route took us onto the mud through the trees, again undulating. It was all going well for 9.5km then turned the corner and a massive steep hill that resembled a muddy hagg hill appeared in front of us! I don’t think there was many that actually ran the whole last section (maybe the faster ones at the front!). There was great support on the hill to get you over the line.
A great little race, value for money but definitely not a PB course! I’m sure we’ll be back again to take on that hill.
181 runners completed the race.  First male was Jay Ferns 36.12 from Loftus & Whitby AC and first female was Catherine Williamson 42.17 from Loftus & Whitby AC.
