Race Date: Sunday 21st April 2024
Perhaps a little less well known than the London Marathon which took place on the same day, the Cat Lane Canter is a very local trail run taking place in the Cat Lane woods situated in S8.
This year the race formed part of our clubs trail championships so it was a popular choice. It offered runners the pick of a 5k (one loop) or 10k (two loops) muddy, undulating route. The latter for those choosing to compete in the championship this year.
In the days leading up to the race were concerns about how muddy it might be, with the organisers sending out an early notice advising that they would be guiding runners through the muddiest parts of the route to protect the surrounding woodland. Reports after the race suggest it actually wasn’t too bad afterall. And at least the sun was finally shining!
The 5k race was won by Denny Frazer in 23:21. The first female finisher was Sarah Gandee in 29:51.
The 10k race was won by Felix Watts of Dark Peak Fell Runners in 41:02. The first female over the line was Katie Walshaw of Holmfirth Harriers in 41:41.
