If you can face the 100 mile round trip to Manchester then this is the place to go if you go want a quick race. The Trafford Grand Prix, also known simply as “Stretford”, is a series open meetings hosted by Trafford AC. Frequently incorporating BMC (British Milers Club) events they attract some of the best athletes from across the North of England. To give an idea of what’s going on there were thirty three track races in all at this meeting, mainly concentrating on middle distance, together with shot and discus competitions. Heat one of the 3000m was won in 08:27.80 although there is something for everyone here as the back marker in the fourth and final 3000m ran 13:57.56.

Back in May our Alex Rice ran his quickest 3000m since he was 18 in heat two only a second off his pb with what was not great weather for racing.
