Race Report by Luke Desforges
Carver Peak Fell Race is always one of the first race dates in my diary. Not only is the race organised by a friend at work, it’s also always run on a beautiful summer evening as he’s very effective at arranging the weather.
The course starts in Carver village, and takes in tracks and paths to the south west, the opposite direction from the well known edges and into territory that I wouldn’t otherwise run. The first steep long hill is a worthwhile effort, as you trot along single track looking towards Chatsworth, and back along tracks looking up towards Eyam. The descent back into Carver is long and technical, great fun.
At 8k and 275m ascent, this is a classic summer evening fell race. The village is out in support, entry fee goes to local community facilities, and everyone goes to the Carver Arms for prizegiving.
There were three Striders on the night, and I’d thoroughly recommend all the more entering next year. Abbie Pearse won the race, with Luke Desforges and Tara Hilton also running well.
177 runners lined up for the Calver Peak Fell Race. The men’s race was won by Dan Haworth of Matlock AC in a time of 30:07. Abbie won the women’s race in a time of 37:05.
