An impressive 17 Striders lined up for this year’s Eyam Fell race.
The 10k race starts with a tough climb out of Eyam up to Sir William Hill, past the Barrel Inn and over towards Bretton Clough. Once there runners are rewarded with one of the best views of the Peak District but there is no time for sightseeing as they plummet down through Abney Moor, around a tight switch back and up through the lovely heather towards Sir William Hill again. The route then continues through a steep wooded section before returning to Eyam.
Edward John and Darrel Porter had a good battle for the honour of being first Strider home, with just 13 seconds between them in 28th and 29th place. Harriet Davies was the first female Strider in a fine 61st place overall. A little further back Daniel Abbot led in a group of six Striders separated by just 45 seconds showing the intensity of the competition.
