Race Date: Sunday 9th November 2025
Brendon Wain reports on this Category BM race in the Peak District featuring 290m of climb..
The 11.5km course is ideal for those that love the fells. Starting at the Lathkil Hotel, Over Haddon, the early miles begin with a descent to the base of Lathkill Dale where you follow the winding rocky path upstream for a while. After around 4km you’re surprised by the sudden increase in gradient where you climb the stone staircase that begins your ascent up the southern edge of the Dale. After a kilometre of brutal climbing it shifts to more gentle terrain of mostly fields with a surfeit of of stone stiles. A long descent follows back down to the base of the Dale where you re-join the footpath following the stream but downstream this time. The hardest part is yet to come, as the final 800m is a steep, unforgiving climb all the way to the finish line back at the Lathkil Hotel.

Leg It Round Lathkil. One of those rare fell races with a downhill start.
The day was misty with little wind or rain. Ideal for fell running and a cracking day out for all that ran with a few Steel City making an appearance amongst the sea of Dark Peak vests including first woman Abbie Pearse who also broke her own course record.

Lathkill Dale also makes for a picturesque walk with waterfalls, an SSSI and evidence of lead mining.
