Malton 10k 2025 Race Report and Results

Race Date: Sunday 21st September 2025
Race Report by Lucy Mottram

Inspired by the Marathon du Medoc in France’s wine region, the Malton 10k follows the approach of eating and drinking food from the local area as you complete the course. It’s called a “Gourmet Wineathon”….you can see the attraction here! For £30 you are treated to a selection of Yorkshire delicacies as you make your way around the scenic 10K course. You actually have a choice of three different races so my top tip would be to make sure you enter the right one:

  • 10.45am- Le Sans Arret- the more formal 10k which is a timed event
  • 12.30pm- Le Classique- this is the one we went for- fancy dress, food drink and music….not much chance of a PB once you’ve got past the welcome wine and food stops!
  • 12.40pm- L’escargot- SNAILS! This is a repeat of the previous option but for those who’d like to walk (and not choke on their sausage roll)

It took us around 1hr30 to arrive in Malton, we found free parking fairly quickly and then walked the 5 minutes to the start line in the marketplace. Here we were able to watch the first race finish as we queued for our number and the loo, all whilst admiring the variety of fun food themed costumes (champagne bottles, ketchup bottles, chickens, and a very cute Beagle dressed as a hot dog for example) and listening to a live band. It’s not a large race so this was all quite relaxed with minimal queueing needed.

Ten minutes before the race started, we were handed a glass of red wine and given a briefing, before doing a warmup lap around the market place with a live brass band leading the way. Then we set off, excited to see what would be included. Following a fairly rapid start up a hill and into the countryside, we had…..

  • Beef or Tofu to start
  • More wine
  • Pork and Chorizo or veggie sausage roll
  • Gin and tonic
  • Scotch egg
  • Yorkshire pudding with beef, horseradish and gravy
  • Chocolate Brownie
  • Rum and raisin macaron
  • Apple juice/ cider
  • Half a lager to run the last few hundred yards around to the finish!

There may have been more, but I cannot remember! Along the way we were greeted by another choir and brass band cheering us on. We were also asked to pose for live action photos, but I sincerely hope these never see the light of day as we’d just downed a brownie and a macaron within about 30 seconds of each other and still had a mouth full. We received a metal water bottle as a finishing gift.

Without a doubt we want to do this again next year, it was amazingly well organised and lots of fun- a refreshing change from feeling nervous about PB’s and under fuelling! Plus we still have our beret, string of fake garlic and a 10 pack of sticky back moustaches so it would be rude not to.

The main, timed event was won by Adam Hill in 39:57. The first female finisher was Jess Angus in 46:19.
