This year’s Marple Beer Run took place in slightly overcast conditions, but the only thing pouring was pints of real ale and slightly smaller measures of local gin. Three Striders made the train journey, and partook of the traditional “warm-up” by swigging a pint in The Navigation pub before legging it to the outskirts of New Mills via another three of the things.

The beer race was won by course record holder Steve Vernon, who ran the second-fastest time ever of 15:54. Gin-and-tonic winner was Oliver Wallace in 17:46. 197 beer runners and 110 gin-and-tonic runners got round the course
