Race Date: Sunday 17th August 2025
The organisers of Staffetta Tre Rifugi like to have a British presence at their relay event and after finishing third scorer for England at Ras Yr Wyddfa back in July, Abbie Pearse was invited on an expenses paid trip to form part of a GB team. Starting in Collina, Udine, Italy, it climbs towards the border with Austria with most of the 700m plus climb on this 4.5km leg coming in the last 2km. Quite steep; and the return trip isn’t much easier either. It then traverses for a further whacky 3.8km before a manicial 4.7km descent back to the finish in Collina. Abbie was on the brutal first leg, handing over to Natalie Beadle (Belgrave) with Hannah Russell (Helm Hill) on the glory leg. Take a look at the promo video to have an idea of the crazy terrain involved Staffetta 3 Rifugi Skytrail. Very pretty though.

Course recce on the day before is essential. This is one of the sections with ropes and ladders to be found on the second leg.
GB finished as second women’s team and 22nd overall in 1:34:31 behind the leading women, Slovenia, who finished a tantalising sixteen seconds ahead in 1:34:17. No split times are available but Strava indicates that Abbie ran 42 minutes. First men were from local club Atletica Dolce Nordest in 1:12:20. 122 teams completed the course, the final third leg runner coming home in 2:36:57
