Race Date: Wednesday 7th May 2025
The 2025 KMR Series started on the 7th May with the renamed Not The Abbey Dash , noting that the course route had also changed again. The Start/Finish remain constants from a (playing) field over the road and down a lane from Race HQ. Conditions on the night were pleasant, perfect for running, with hazy sunshine and a fresh, gentle breeze. There was a full pre-race briefing on the new route (handy for those that knew where the railway line was) and then we were off across a very uneven grassed field (with a deep ditch, to avoid). This lead on to a familiar (narrow in places) rocky woodland path (after a stretch with nylon matting). A few turns later we came out into the open and ran along another hard (dry mud) uneven path alongside a recently planted arable field. This gently undulating loop was ran twice before a return was made to the start/finish either through or around a swing gate (on to the lumpy mole damaged field) for a “sprint” to the line.
As with all KMR races, post race food is available back at Race HQ. Thanks to Maltby Running Club for organising this event and for providing post race Chip Butties and prizes. And, most importantly, for securing the event licence (late in the day) which is apparently is getting ever harder to do.
The race is described as a 4-ish mile trail run, starting as always on the playing fields at 7pm, 2 minutes from the race HQ at: Maltby Catholic Club, S66 7LE. If attending, allow time to park – (nearby spaces are limited) and collect race numbers. Strava variations showed a distance of c. 5.79-5.86km and elevation gain c, 73-75m
In addition to Chip butties, results, and prizes for individual and age categories are awarded back at the Club House after the race.
The only Strider wins on the night were: Paddy was 1st for a chip butty, and Sarah was a very close overall second (1st Female). Pictured. Well done indeed!
There were 164 runners for race 1 in the series. The male race winner was Ben Harris of Retford AC in 23.10, the female race winner was Izzy Mai Wilson of Hallamshire in 25.01

ABOUT EACH KMR RACE
All clubs and all runners affiliated or unaffiliated are welcome. Each race is a race in its own right. There may be different awards etc. The entry costs will typically be the same. Low cost of entry is now: £8/£10 (for 2025) Whilst being seriously competitive, these are VERY friendly events. Entry is allowed on the day/evening BUT due to increased entries, some races are now limited entry with a closing date. This event was pre-booked online . Distances typically from 4 miles up to around 8. Refreshments provided after eg sandwiches, rolls, chips, ….Fields typically ~80 up to 200+
ABOUT THE SERIES
There are 12 races. You can run as many as you like! But if you want to compete in the series, the magic number is 8. Initially, the number of races done places you in your category league. The leader is the one who has done most races. If that’s equal, it’s who won the most races when looked at as head-to-head in the category. If only one runner has done 8 that of course is the winner but if two or more have done 8, or more than 8, it goes straight to head-to-head whether one or more have done 9, or 10, or 11, or 12 is immaterial at that level, only the number of wins head-to-head is counted.
