The final Run, Jump Throw Track & Field meeting of 2025 saw five Striders competing at Woodbourne Road on 2nd July. A delightful Summer’s evening meant conditions were pretty ideal for track racing.
Sarah-Jane Brown, fresh from a sub 3.30 marathon in London, naturally went for the 200 metres and 400 metres, the first time she has attempted these distances since primary school. An excellent 66.95 in the 400m was followed 40 minutes later by a solid 30.95 in the 200m. Given her speed and endurance it would be very interesting to see her run over 800m and 1500m.
Kate Scott was a fraction outside her season’s best in the 400m with 75.68, and narrowly outside the 3.00 minute barrier in the 800m – she will no doubt be back for the Masters Grand Prix at Woodbourne on August 23rd to do some damage in the F60 category.
Jed Turner and myself were locked together for the first four laps of the 3000 metres. I thought I had built up a reasonable lead by the bell but Jed put in one of his monster last laps and closed to an alarmingly close two-second gap by the end.
Finally, Yasmine Chaffer took 0.25 of a second off her Personal Best in an evenly-paced 800m race in 2.41.37 – worth putting in the effort to haul in Amber Valley’s Geoff Lowry over the last 200 metres. Hopefully she will be inside 2.40 before the season ends.
