Sheldon was the 8th counter in the 2025 Striders Fell Race Champs and saw a good turnout from the club. Unusually for a fell race, it features a (furiously steep and fast) downhill start. It is followed by a short run along the river before a hands-on-knees climb back up the hill, a dash across the fields and a short steep descent on the road back to the pub in village.
It was hot, muggy and the air was thick with summer flies: not the best combination when you’re gasping for breath!
The race was won by Finlay Grant (DPFR) in 22:40 – a new course record and nearly 4 minutes ahead of second place – quite crazy on a race of less than 4 miles. First woman was Constance Jenneson (Buxton AC) in 29:49. There were 134 finishers including 19 Striders.
