Race Report by Mandy Taylor
I signed up for this last year after completing and enjoying the race.
A flat route (except half mile from the end which is a continuous gentle incline) that starts in the grounds of Cave Castle, takes in the local villages via country lanes and is nicely supported, well marshalled with drinks station at 3.5mile and 5.2 mile. I had thought that there would be opportunity to push for a PB.

Cave Castle
Registration is a 5 min walk away from the start point but collection of bibs is well managed.
This year the weather started very overcast and resulted in me forgetting sun glasses and cap which would have been beneficial at times during the run.
Sadly, those who know me know that I’ve been plagued with injuries and other health issues including sciatic problems, plantar, a fracture and fatigue issues that have resulted in a very poor training regime!

Recent races have left me having to walk sections of them – so getting a PB was just not going to happen.
I therefore went out with the intention to enjoy the route/race, and not put any pressure on myself.
It’s nice to see that all the marshalls run back with the last runner so he/she is well supported.
Although I finished nearly 3mins slower than last year, I’m really pleased I got round and still managed a 2nd age cat place.

Job done, proud owner of a South Cave 10k medal
Would recommend this race but as its grown – this was the 5th event, there are issues re not enough loos and parking is now on the field next to the race but you have to wait while race finishers before you can drive home!
Mandy was the lone Strider among 883 runners who lined up for the South Cave 10k. The men’s race was won by Will Lewis of City of Hull AC in a time of 32.49. The superbly named Izzy Bone, also of City of Hull AC, won the women’s race in a time of 41:08.
