Race Date: 6th September, 2025.
Distance: 25 Km (15.5 Miles).
The second part of my Trail Escape adventure took myself, Lisa and Thandi to Edinburgh. We bought the tickets in a Black Friday BOGOF deal. Having already completed Manchester in the summer, I was excited to see what Edinburgh had to offer.
Trail Escape offer different options for the event. You can enter as a runner or a walker for 25km or marathon distance. I entered as a runner and Lisa changed her option to walking with Thandi due to a long standing injury (although Lisa appears in the results as a runner).
It was an early start on the Saturday with runners setting off at 8am and walkers and 8:30.
The race started and finished from Saughton Park, close to the city centre. The route was traffic-free and followed along tranquil green corridors out of the city and quickly head up into the stunning Pentland Hills.
The views of Edinburgh were stunning from the Pentland Hills. It also provided a great opportunity (or excuse) to catch your breath and take in the surroundings.
The return journey utilised the same route back into the city, to collect your medal and T shirt at the finish.
There were hydration stations on route, and was a cup-less event.
The distance ended up being longer than 15 miles (more like 18 miles). This was due to a last minute re-route on event morning in order to avoid a collapsed bridge, which added on some extra distance.
The sun stayed out all day and was perfect race weather. After the race we could relax and enjoy our girls’ weekend away.
The race was won by Ellis Mitscavitch (of no identified club) in 01:47:03 and Alice Hartley (of no identified club) in 02:16:07.
