Race Date: Sunday 27th July 2025
Ultra X Wales
The Ultra X Wales 50km ran alongside their other weekend events of 60km (Saturday), 25km (Sunday) and a 110km multi stage.
For the 50km route we set off from Fairbourne at 7am for a fast and flat initial 8km. After a small warm up hill we crossed over Penmaenpool Toll Bridge which is a beautiful wooden single track crossing built in 1879. The ascent to Rhinog Fach then kicked off – a nice gentle woodland trail at first, then through a nice boggy section and finally a scramble up to the summit. The descent was treacherous with loose and slippy rocks and provided me with my most impressive running bruise yet! The course then took us along the undulating ridgeline and back towards Barmouth and featured some beautiful sea views. A final plod over Barmouth railway bridge took us back to Fairbourne where ice cream, coffee and pizza awaited.
The day was topped off by watching England win the Euros on a huge pub screen and a £3.20 pint.
I finished in 07:31:33 which placed me as 9th female and 33rd overall. Garmin recorded 47.57km and 1767m of ascent.
The 50km event was won by Taylor Baston (of no identified club) in 05:24:42 and Poppy Wardley (of no identified club) in 05:32:58.
